Welcome to the Albany Bike Club website.
Who are we? Well we're ABC or Albany Bike Club.

Albany Bike Club (or Bike Albany as it was in its original guise) started back in 2006 by Mark and Frank Clavis and was affiliated with their bike shop for the purpose of giving people (new to cycling) an opportunity to learn to ride within a safe environment.

Now no longer associated with any one particular bike shop, we have morphed into more of a social riding bunch who are competitive but not too serious. (However, the art of "one up-man-ship" is alive and well) We’re a healthy (ish) bunch, but still enjoy a beer / wine (or two) with dinner and happy to talk all manner of bollocks relating to cycling over a coffee.

We’re a club, but it's nothing too official. There are no membership fees or subs. In fact, the only requirements are, that you’re not an arsehole, you respect traffic rules and a sense of humour is preferable.

Age is no barrier as we have a current range of pre-teens through to old farts.

We’re organised, but only to the extent that we usually know where we are going to start our rides from. After that, it’s usually up to the person on the front to decide which way we go from there.

We're not huge fans of the rain. If caught out in the rain we're not so bad, but starting in it, well let's just say the turn out can be somewhat inconsistent.

We compete in the odd events such as Lake Taupo, K1&2, The Flyer etc. and even have two teams in the Dynamo Teams Championship series which we are defending Category 3 champs. (see elsewhere on this site for more information on that) I guess you could say that we are at “C” grade level if you are thinking club champs.

If this sounds like a bit of you and you fit the strict criteria mentioned above,
then you’re more than welcome to come and join us.
